I was taught manners, but it seems like some people never learned that and it irritates me.
For a list of manners, this is what I've come up with:
Speaking:
1. Don't interrupt someone if they are already speaking to someone else. Let them finish, then speak.
2. If you are trying to speak to someone and they are on the other side of the room- go to where they are, don't yell across the room.
3. Do not ask "Can I...?", instead use "May I...?".
4. Do not say "Yeah". You should always say "Yes" or "Yes, please".
5. Give respect to your elders when they are speaking.
6. Speak with respect to others and of others.
7. Show that you are interested in someone's conversation by paying attention and asking questions about it. Don't try to just talk about yourself or things you've done, let them talk too!
8. Don't talk back.
9. Speak in an indoor voice at all times in any indoor place. Do not speak loudly or yell.
10. Greet someone properly. Say things like, hello, good morning, good afternoon, good evening, etc.
11. If you missed what someone said, ask for clarification. Don't say "What?", instead say "I'm sorry?", "Pardon?" or "Could you say that again please?".
Eating:
12. When eating, eat with your mouth closed. It is disgusting when someone is chomping away and you can see the food they are eating, and hear it.
13. Don't slurp your drink.
14. Don't talk with your mouth full.
15. If you need something that is not near you on the table, such as the ketchup, you should ask "Can you pass the ketchup please?". Don't try to reach for it or point at it until someone gets it. Also, say thank you after they pass it to you.
16. If someone asks if you need something, such as a refill for your drink, say "Yes, please" or "No, thank you".
Moving About:
17. If you are opening a door and someone is behind you or close to you, hold it open for them. It is polite and I don't think anyone would want a door shut in their face.
18. If you need to get by someone, say excuse me. It is very rude just to go in front of someone and disrupt whatever they are doing.
19. If you bump into someone on accident, say sorry.
20. If you bump into someone and you knock them down, help them up and gather anything, if anything, that they dropped as well.
